ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY

I was not able to find interesting topic after my wonderful adventurous trip to TADA Waterfall. No topic was making me interest untill I went to my proverbs section (I am fond of reading proverbs; captivating, catchy phrases with sensible meaning) to refresh my mind. I browsed through hundreds of proverb, short listing proverbs which interests me most, and then finally came down to this inspiring proverb “ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY”.

ROME is the capital of Italy; popularly known as “capital of world” ‘Eternal city” ‘City of seven hills”. In the founding myth of Rome, Romulus marked the outline of the city by a channel. Drawing this outline could have been done in a single day. Building the city, and expanding it to the metropolis it took a lot longer. Even though the idea of Rome was defended from day one, the reality of Rome took time to get into place; this city did not come into existence all of a sudden. It was founded in 753 B.C. Then Emperor Augustus and his successors added to its glory and grandeur till, at last, after several centuries, it became the world's most magnificent city. Thus origin of proverb “ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY”.

I am excited to write more about this phrase / proverb “ ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY” because it inspires us to constantly pursue our goals; work more harder; climb every small step of success ladder to reach much higher than sky to see yourself at “top of the world”. It is about patience, determination, commitment and passion to work hard without expecting results and success to come immediately and this will surely give you success which will be known to whole world.

History says itself and gives us lots of examples whether it is magnificent architecture, monument or people himself. It took thousands of skillful laborers and decades to build Taj Mahal; fame as No 1 rank in Seven Wonders of World. 8 year old boy started working at petrol pump worked hard for decades to become entrepreneur of No 1 petroleum refinery industries known as Reliance Industries. Yes, you guessed it right; I am talking about Dhirubhai Ambani who has created his vast empire of Reliance Industries in the field of petroleum, cloth, etc. This all did not happen in a single day or fortnight. It took decades of hardship to achieve their ambition, their dream they have seen.

We often think that we have work hard and we should get immediate results and deserve for success. We are wrong. Great things in life cannot achieve instantly nor does success come to your door knocking every evening. Keep in mind “Instant success achieved is of no value and fades away easily as the sun sets every evening.”

I see three aspects of this phrase / proverb “ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY”. First is the vision and dream to build; second is the plan and way to build and third is execution and working for decades to built ROME in such a magnificent way.

1) DREAM AND VISION: I do believe “Those who do not dream; cannot do anything new in life”. You cannot do or strive anything great unless you dream of it. You should dream and have vision to do something great (though it seems odd to world; you have pursue your dream).

2) PLAN TOWARDS GOAL: I would say “Every step kept forward is according to plan” military context. In military, every action taken towards goal is well-planned and always kept in mind. One wrong step taken can cost failure of whole system. It implies that we should make a proper plan before executing or jumping towards goal. We should plan accordingly to achieve our goal and which helps us to reach our goal.

3) EXECUTION AND WORK HARD:Wherever you go, go with your heart”. Your plan and vision would seem odd to world but if you have faith and belief in your dream; work hard towards your goad with all determination and dedication. It may take decade to achieve your goal but keep in mind “Journey of thousand miles starts with single step”. Only Plan and no work will make give you fantasy of life being lived in a beautiful castle built up on ninth cloud.

ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY” I would also say “NEITHER YOU CAME TO EXISTENCE IN SINGLE DAY”. By this I mean, one has keep patience, determination, dedication and work hard towards its goal. Success will knock your door surely. GIVE YOUR BEST FOR YOUR OWN FUTURE WHICH YOU HAVE START BUILDING FROM DAY 0.

  4. Yup, Rome was not built in a day and every big achievement needs good amount of patience and thoughtfulness,
but at the same time one should never forget that some times patience starts taking the shape of complacency once the status quo happens to stretch for a long time.So on this note we should always remember that water will only remain clean when its moving and not stagnant. So the pace of life should never be slowed down but at the same time it should never be accelerated beyond a certain limit that it goes out of control.........here patience comes into picture.
So lets make this picture more bright rosy and attractive but not just lucrative to suit our convenience.......

  5. True, Rome was not build in a day,
but to be litreally correct i would say "Roman Empire was not built in a Day"...
It was the courage of Roman emperors to go beyond the borders, fight great wars, sacrifice life of thousands of soldiers that build the Great Empire...

It not just dream, vision, plan but the courage to execute these and take calculated risk that matter the most.
